Eagle’s Trace is a
70 acre retirement campus being constructed
on the far west side of Houston. White Oak
Studio has been involved with the planning
and design for the campus from the outset,
working with JHP Architects (Dallas), Walter
P. Moore Engineers and Knudson & Associates
to develop the site plan, then preparing
landscape design for the intensively developed
campus. The campus is organized around a
7 acre lake developed as a stormwater detention
pond and a visual amenity, complete with
paths, water spray features, wetlands and
boardwalks. The three residential neighborhoods
are oriented to take advantage of the proximity
and views to the lake and surrounding landscape.
Special attention was given to existing
trees on-site – a number of large
trees are being protected in-place, while
over 100 trees have been moved to an on-site
tree farm to be used throughout the campus
during the phased development. White Oak
Studio was also responsible for design of
landmark features on the site, including
a stone arched vehicular bridge and curved
stone walls at the entrance to the campus.
Completion of the first residential and
community buildings is scheduled for Fall,
2005.
